Title: Bio efficacy of green synthesized silver nanoparticles using Eucalyptus citridora (L.) (Myrtaceae) against Aedes albopictus (Skuse) (Diptera: Culicide): The tiger mosquito.

    Abstract:

Aedes albopictus is a severe pest species and a component vector of many exotic arboviruses such as Dengue, JE and Chikungunya. Green synthesized silver nanoparticles of Eucalytpus citiridora (L.) against Aedes albopictus (Skuse) were tested at 0.5ppm, 1.0 ppm and 1.5 ppm in Dimethyl Sulphooxide (DMSO) for larvicidal efficacy against late 3rd instars and adulticidal efficacy was tested at 0.125 ppm, 0.25 ppm and 0.5 ppm against the 4th generation 4 to 5 days old adult females by using central disease control (CDC) bottle method as per WHO guideline. The mortality for larvae was observed in time interval of 24 to 48 hours, Knockdown time for adults was observed in time interval of 5 min to 1 hour and acute mortality after 24h. LC50 for larvicidal activity was observed at 3.99 ppm after 24 hours of exposure. However, 53.33±6.9, 68.89%±15.2 and 98.88±20.9% mortality was observed at 0.5 ppm, 1.0 ppm and 1.5 ppm respectively after 48 hours of exposure.  The observed adulticidal KT50 is at 1.58, 1.28, 1.41 minute against 0.125 ppm, 0.25 ppm and 0.5 ppm respectively. This result indicates that green synthesized silver nanoparticles of Eucalyptus citridora can be used as an effective and eco-friendly approach against Aedes albopictus larvae and adults.
